SOFEMA History

Over 80 years of expertise

SOFEMA was born from the merger of two public service companies, S.O.F.M.A. and O.F.E.M.A. whose expertise is based on nearly 80 years of business activity. In its beginnings, SOFEMA had as a principal mission to develop and manage international sales of major French industrial groups specialized in the aeronautics and defense sectors. At the time of its privatization in 1998, the enterprise became a key player in the sector, benefiting from the support of a group of renowned shareholders, among which are Airbus, Safran, Naval Group, Thales, Nexter Systems, Dassault Aviation and Arquus.
In 2007, SOFEMA carried out a first significant shift in its positioning, going from an intermediary role in the large French export contracts to that of an independent trader specialized in the sale of spare parts and equipment, as well as in the management of modernization projects of land and aeronautics platforms. Starting in 2020, faced with a changing economic context and the emergence of new international players, SOFEMA made a new strategic shift.
Henceforth, the business activity of the enterprise is based on three pillars: the support and MOC (maintenance in operational condition) of aeronautical and land platforms, the commercialization of innovative solutions adapted to the needs of the clients, as well as the promotion of turnkey integrated packages. This evolution shows the firm commitment of SOFEMA to accompany its clients, both national and international, in a more and more demanding global context.
